Yes, PuraClean® can be used whenever a manufacturer recommends an adhesive spray be used on the air filter. However, PuraClean® is far more than a simple adhesive spray. Adhesive sprays, also know as tackifiers, are used to keep filtered dust and dirt attached onto the filter, but they do not increase the filtration in the first place. While PuraClean® does act like an adhesive to keep trapped dirt bonded to the filter, it does much more. The PuraClean® filter spray allows an electrostatic charge (static electric charge) to build up on the filter as the air flows through the filter. This static electric charge is similar to the static that builds up on you when walking across a new carpet (and getting a static shock when touching a door handle), or the static cling that can cause clothes to stick to your body. Once the static electric charge is developed on the filter, this electrostatic charge draws dirt particles to the filter. These are small particles that would typically pass through the openings in the filter, had the electrostatic charge not been present. So PuraClean® draws more particles to the filter and also acts like an adhesive to hold them onto the filter. Independent tests have shown the filtration effectiveness increases by as much as 200%.
